About WatchesUnder
WatchesUnder is a buying guide for people who want a good looking, well made watch without spending luxury money. Most of what we cover costs under $200, and almost all of it under $500.
The watch world mostly writes about watches few people buy. The most talked about steel sports watches start well above $10,000 at retail and come with waiting lists. Meanwhile most people shopping for a watch have a budget closer to $100, and very little careful writing exists for them. That is the gap we try to fill.
What we publish
- Price guides: the best watches at each budget, from under $50 to under $500, with a short answer at the top for readers in a hurry. See all price guides.
- Style guides: skeleton, chronograph, dress, field and dive style watches, and the design details that make a watch read as expensive. See watch styles and watches that look expensive.
- Gift guides: groomsmen sets, watches for partners, graduations and anniversaries. See gift guides.
- Brand guides: how Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Timex, Tissot, Bulova and newer online brands compare. See brands.
- Watch 101: movements, sizing, bracelets, care and a glossary of the terms worth knowing. See Watch 101.
How we work
Every price on the site is the price a brand lists on its own US website on the day we check it, and every guide shows when prices were last checked. Our price index lists the current price of every watch we write about most often. When a more expensive watch is the better buy for what you want, we say so. You can read more in how we choose.
Who owns WatchesUnder
WatchesUnder is owned by BlackRobin Capital Inc. Next to every Lucky Fours pick in our guides you will find the same line, so the ownership is clear wherever a recommendation appears. Our how we choose page explains how picks are made.
Who writes it
Our guides are written by three editors and the WatchesUnder desk. Daniel Reyes covers men's sports and everyday watches, Hannah Brooks covers women's watches, dress watches and gifts, and Michael Chen covers automatics, brands and Watch 101. Meet them on our writers page.
