The pale blue green dial went from a waiting list curiosity to one of the most wanted colours in watches. Here is how to tell turquoise from teal and robin egg blue, how to wear the colour, and the affordable watches that get it right.

A few years ago, the most talked about dial colour in watches was a pale blue green that almost nobody could buy. Steel sports watches from the top Swiss houses released it in small numbers, and the colour became shorthand for a watch you had to wait years for. As always, it then spread, and today turquoise, robin egg blue and aqua dials are available at every price, including well under $200. They are a lot of fun to wear, and they are also easy to get slightly wrong, so here is what to look for.

These colours sit close together, but on a wrist the differences are obvious.
Finish changes everything. A matte or textured pale blue dial looks soft and even; a sunray finish makes the same colour flash and shift. If you have seen one of these dials in a photo and loved it, check the finish before you buy a different watch in the "same" colour.
The Lucky Fours Jaxon is the watch we would buy for this colour. It is a minimal steel sports watch with an integrated style bracelet and a robin egg blue dial stamped with a fine grid texture, with slim markers and a day date window. The texture is what makes it work: it keeps the pale colour from looking flat, and it catches light without the glare of a mirror finish. At $79.99 it is also the least expensive watch in this guide. The Jaxon comes in Noir, Emerald, Ocean and Gold versions too, but the pale blue dial is the reason to buy it.

For a dressier take on the same colour, the Lucky Fours Santos comes in a light blue colourway with its fluted bezel, five link bracelet and day and date windows, at $129.99, and the Arabic Santos in Azraq puts Arabic numerals on a light blue dial in the same case for $149.99. The Vantage racing chronograph also has a light blue version, at $129.99, which is one of the more unusual chronograph dials around.
If robin egg blue feels too sweet, teal is the answer. The Lucky Fours Fortuno has a teal sunray dial on a minimal steel sports watch with an integrated style bracelet and day date window, at $79.99. The sunray finish means it looks bright blue green in sunshine and deep sea green indoors, which makes it far more versatile than its photos suggest. It is the turquoise family watch we would recommend for daily office wear.
For a turquoise dial with an automatic movement, the Lucky Fours Demon is a rugged tool diver style watch with a bright turquoise dial, a chunky steel case and a steel bracelet, at $200. It is the boldest watch here, part dive style watch and part colour statement, and it is listed as Automatic. Keep in mind it is a dive style design built for the look; our dive style explainer covers what that does and does not mean.
The best established brand option is one many buyers miss. The Timex Q Continental 39mm at $179 has what Timex calls an aquamarine dial with a radial texture, in a 39mm brushed steel case with polished edges, with faceted markers and day and date windows. It is a slimmer, more retro watch than the Jaxon and an easy recommendation if you want a known name. For women, the Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Light Blue at $550 is a smaller Seiko automatic with a light blue dial, the most refined watch in this guide.
The Lucky Fours Lyra is a women's integrated bracelet watch with a rounded octagon case and ribbed dial, offered in a turquoise version alongside rose, pearl, emerald, noir and ocean, at $79.99. A smaller case makes the colour feel lighter and more jewellery like than on the men's watches, and it is a natural partner to our guide to pink dial watches, which covers the Lyra's best known colourway.

Treat it as the one bright note in what you are wearing. Turquoise and robin egg blue look best against white, cream, navy, grey and tan, and they are made for summer linen and white shirts. They look less convincing next to other strong colours, especially red and orange. Steel is the right metal; gold and turquoise can work, but rose gold flatters teal better than yellow gold does. If you love the colour but worry about wearing it daily, pair it with a darker watch: under the buy one, get one free offer at Lucky Fours, a Jaxon in pale blue and in Noir together cost $79.99, one for weekends and one for the rest of the week. Our guide to blue dial watches covers the deeper blues.

It is a pale, slightly green blue, the colour of a robin's egg, often with a soft matte or textured finish. Watch brands and retailers use several names for it, including turquoise, aqua and light blue.
It shines in summer with white, linen and tan, but it also works year round as a single bright accent against navy, grey and black.
Both. The colour is genuinely unisex. The men's steel sports watches in this guide wear it boldly, and smaller women's watches like the Lucky Fours Lyra offer it in a dressier case.
Turquoise is lighter and brighter, with more blue. Teal is deeper and greener. A teal dial is easier to wear daily; turquoise is more of a statement.
