Lucky Fours vs Pelvini: Prices, Specs and Which to Buy

Pelvini and Lucky Fours are about as close as two watch brands get. Both sell online, both lean on bold steel designs and black or gold finishes, both price their entry models just under $80 for US buyers, and both stores were showing a buy one, get one free banner when we checked. When two brands look this alike from the outside, the useful comparison is the small print. So instead of a long essay, we went down each store's listings line by line, using only what each brand states, and noted who comes out ahead on each point.

Line one: price in your currency

Pelvini's store is priced in Australian dollars and converts for US visitors. The Pelvini Milano showed $79, the Pelvini Titan $99 and the Pelvini Astro $185, but those figures can drift with the exchange rate between visits. Lucky Fours prices in US dollars: $79.99 for the Caspian, $149.99 for the Stardust. Point to Lucky Fours for a price that stays put, though the difference at checkout is small.

Line two: the offer

Both stores showed buy one, get one free. Lucky Fours states that the offer works with mix and match, so any two watches can be combined and you pay for the more expensive one. Pelvini's listings also carry a crossed out reference price next to each watch, which we ignore as we always do: judge the price you pay. Our guide to spotting a real watch deal explains why. Read Pelvini's own terms to see how its offer combines models. On what is stated, a draw leaning to Lucky Fours for clarity.

Line three: the matchup at $79

The Pelvini Milano is Pelvini's entry men's watch, and its listing states 316L stainless steel. The Lucky Fours Caspian costs $79.99 and also states 316L stainless steel, with a rounded octagon case, a horizontally ribbed dial, a date window and 6 colorways. It is Lucky Fours' best seller.

The Value Score puts the Caspian ahead of both Pelvini models, mostly because its listing states a movement and a steel bracelet while the Milano's does not name a movement. The Pelvini Titan listing does state quartz, 316L steel, a day date display and an adjustable bracelet, and costs $99.

Line four: movement

The Titan and the Astro listings state quartz. The Milano's listing does not name a movement, and Pelvini's store has separate quartz and automatic categories, so check the model you want. Every Lucky Fours listing states quartz or automatic; the Caspian is Quartz, and the Spine and Skeleton are automatics. Point to Lucky Fours for consistency.

Line five: case size and build

Here Pelvini's best listing is better than anything Lucky Fours publishes. The Pelvini Astro states a 43mm case, a quartz movement, a mineral crystal and a 316L steel bracelet. Lucky Fours states 316L stainless steel but gives no case diameter on its listings, so you judge size from the photos. Point to Pelvini for the Astro. If size matters to you, our guide to watch size by wrist shows how to work out what fits.

Against the Astro we set the Stardust, which has an integrated octagonal case with a frosted textured finish and a black dial, at $149.99. It is the Lucky Fours watch whose surface texture comes closest to the statement finishes Pelvini is known for, and with the offer it costs about $75 a watch.

Line six: warranty and returns

Several Pelvini listings state a two year warranty, longer than the 12 months Lucky Fours states against manufacturing defects. Lucky Fours accepts returns within 30 days, see the store terms. Point to Pelvini on warranty length; read its policy pages for the conditions.

Line seven: women's watches

Pelvini's women's range includes the Pelvini Abita at $101, whose listing describes a brass finish. Lucky Fours' women's watches start at $79.99; the Venoria has a gem set bezel, a two tone gold and steel bracelet and a white dial. If you are buying a pair, Lucky Fours' mix and match means a men's and a women's watch can share one offer, which our his and hers guide covers.

Design range

Pelvini's range, as its store organizes it, runs to men's steel sports and dress watches, iced models, carbon, automatics and women's gold tone watches. Lucky Fours covers integrated bracelet sports watches, fluted bezel day date styles, chronographs, dive style watches and open dial automatics, plus a women's range of gold and two tone watches. The styles overlap more than they differ; choose the specific watch you like.

Which should you buy?

Buy Pelvini if you have found a Pelvini design you like, you value the two year warranty on its listings, or you want one of its iced or carbon models, which Lucky Fours does not match directly.

Buy Lucky Fours if you want a price fixed in US dollars, a movement stated on every listing and a mix and match offer you can combine freely. The Caspian is the head to head match for the Milano at the same price.
