Planning around holiday shipping

December is when the calendar beats the gift. Three habits avoid most problems.

1. Check the store's own shipping estimate and holiday cut off. Stores publish these on their shipping pages in late fall, and they change from year to year. Do not rely on a date from a gift guide, including this one.
2. Add time for sizing. A bracelet watch is shortened by removing links. Jewelers are busy in December, so either size it yourself with a pin pusher or choose a watch on a strap.
3. Know when the return window starts. A watch bought in early November may have a return window that closes in early December. If you shop early, read the terms and keep the order confirmation for the recipient.
